Cooking Polish dumplings course
Dumplings can be found in many countries around the world, but they differ by their filling, cooking or dough preparation. Depending on the country, they also have their own specific names and are considered a traditional element of national cuisine. In China, there are won tons, traditionally stuffed with minced pork, mushrooms and seasoned with soy sauce. Japanese gyoza, often steamed, are also stuffed with meat but seasoned with ginger and garlic and their secret is a very thin crust. The Spanish calzones with their dough similar to pizza, large pancakes are stuffed and folded in half in the shape of a dumpling. Mexican empanadas are usually stuffed with meat stuffing with vegetables or cheese. Jewish kreplach dumplings are classic triangle-shaped dumplings made of the well-known dumpling dough. In Greece, these are tiropitakia, filo pastry dumplings stuffed most often with feta cheese or other cheeses, seasoned with local herbs and baked in the oven. There are pelmeni or vareniki in Russia and Ukraine.
Regardless of the origin, one thing is certain – There is no Polish cuisine without pierogi. Our great-grandmothers, grandmothers and mothers made them, which is why nobody can imagine a Polish menu without this culinary specialty. First of all: Russian dumplings loved all over the world. Filled with onionsand potatoes, they are often the object of the sighs of foreigners and the favorite dish of Poles. Right next to them you should place dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms. They are eaten not only every day, but also on holidays, because they belong to 12 dishes on Christmas Eve – they cannot be missing on the festive table. Another traditional variant is dumplings with meat. Filled with beef or – less often – poultry, they are a delicious and very filling dish.
